How to prepare for your headshot.

  1. Find a photographer who fits your style and personality and that you feel comfortable with.
  2. Ask your headshot photographer any questions you may have before the shoot. You can see a useful list here.
  3. Are you going to be using your photos at different times of the year, for example on blogs, maybe bring a selection of clothes to get a couple of different seasonal style shots.
  4. Try different outfits and poses before meeting your photographer, to get a feel for what you like, the photographer will of course guide you and knows how to get the best and most flattering angles.
  5. You can always have a quick practice at home in front of a mirror before the shoot.
  6. Remember to iron your clothes and bring hangers.
  7. Drink plenty of water for the days leading up to your shoot.
  8. Sleep well the night before to give you an even fresher glowing skin.
  9. Guys, shave first thing in the morning to allow your skin to settle.
  10. Moisturise your face.
  11. Get your make-up and hair done professionally, or add a little more make-up than usual, as well as powder, to stop shine and to enhance your natural beauty.
  12. Be yourself, be true to yourself and wear clothes that reflect your personality.
  13. Wear clothes that make you feel good and you feel comfortable in but that won’t date too much.
  14. Avoid small stripes as it can be hypnotizing and avoid logos unless of course, they’re yours!
  15. Remember to bring a couple of changes of clothes and accessories.
  16. Maybe use a professional hairstylist and check your hair before the shoot.
  17. Remember to bring your comb or brush and a lipstick.
  18. Bring accessories: hat, scarf, jewellery…
  19. Be comfortable, don’t be scared nobody is judging you and just have lots of fun.
